Silence.im (formerly SMSSecure) is a full open source end to end encrypted text messaging replacement application for your Android smartphone text messaging app. It deals directly with SMS and MMS, rather than chat protocols that work over the web. It focuses on keeping your messages safe and secure, giving lesser priority to frills like animation, stickers and group chat.
Silence was forked from Signal, and uses the same open source, ultra-secure Signal encryption. Silence messages are end-to-end encrypted over the air using the Axolotl encryption protocol with other Silence users. If the other party does not have Silence installed you can still communicate, just not encrypted.
Silence.im is available for Android and Kindle Fire.
