BIRT is an open source technology platform used to create data visualizations and reports that can be embedded into rich client and web applications.
BIRT—which is an acronym for Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools—is an Eclipse top-level project. It provides tools to extract data from data sources, process that data, and present the processed information to end users.
BIRT consist of two main components: a visual report designer for creating BIRT Designs, and a runtime component for generating those designs that can be deployed to any Java environment. BIRT also includes a charting engine. The charting engine is fully integrated into the BIRT designer, but it can also be used alone to integrate charts into an application.
BIRT supports Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Proprietary applications it could replace:
- Ubiq
- Tableau
- SpagoBI
