Introduction
This monthly newsletter focuses on the various Open Source projects going on in the world, calling attention to a different Open Source project each month. Our objective at Alt Choice Tech Advisers is to increase exposure to these Open Source projects in the business community. We hope these resources will be of great benefit to both your individual business and the community as a whole.
Now that the introduction is done, let’s move on to the first Open Source project we’ll be sharing with you…
This Month’s Open Source Project:
Processing Foundation
This is a very ambitious project with a noble quest: Seeking to educate artistic-minded people on how to utilize technology without being intimidated by the technology; and also to teach tech-minded people how to be artistic in their implementation of technology. In a nutshell, the goal of this project is the unification of the right brain and left brain in the creative process. The project is working to make these abilities available to all regardless of their economic situation or locational disadvantage.
The Processing Foundation was founded in 2012 after more than a decade of work with the original Processing software. Processing is a flexible software sketchbook and a language for learning how to code within the context of the visual arts. The latest version is “Version 3”
Objective
The Processing Foundation’s objective is to promote software literacy within the visual arts, and visual literacy within technology-related fields, and to make this opportunity accessible and available to diverse communities throughout the world.
Goals
Their goal is to empower people of all interests and backgrounds to learn how to program and make creative work with code, especially those who might not otherwise have access to these tools and resources.
Solution
The Processing Foundation develops and distributes a group of related software projects, which includes Processing (Java), p5.js (JavaScript), and Processing.py (Python), and facilitates partnerships and collaborations with allied organizations and individuals, to build a more diverse community around software and the arts.
