SolveSpace is an open source 2D and 3D CAD (computer-aided design) program. It is a constraint-based parametric modeler with simple mechanical simulation capabilities.
The user interface, though minimalistic, helps to make the learning curve easier for a new user. The interface consists of two windows: a larger window that contains mostly graphics and a smaller window that contains mostly text. The graphics window is used to draw the geometry and to view the 3d model. The text window provides information about the model and may also be used to modify settings and numerical parameters.
Its applications include modeling 3D parts, modeling 2D parts, 3D-printed parts, preparing CAM data, mechanism design, plane and solid geometry.
SolveSpace is available for Windows, Linux and MacOS X.
Proprietary applications it could replace:
- Autodesk AutoCAD
- SolidWorks
