Krita is an Open Source sketching and painting program designed mainly for digital artists. It was initially funded by thousands of backers on Kickstarter in 2015. The campaign had two goals: (1) to fund a new, faster rendering engine for digital painting; and (2) a traditional animation toolset.
Krita is designed with an intuitive user interface that stays out of your way. The dockers and panels can be moved and customized for your specific workflow. It also supports full color management through LCMS for ICC and OpenColor IO for EXR, allowing you to incorporate Krita into your existing color management pipeline.
Krita is multiplatform—running on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Proprietary applications it could replace:
- Adobe Photoshop Elements
- Corel PaintShop Pro
- Corel Painter
